N. Europe 2017 III Luxembourg

20-05

Entry to Luxembourg - the country - and directly to a gas station for oil. The absolute loss of cars - due to the great price difference - I measured 30 pumps and the delay touched the hour!!! if we add the traffic chaos to motorway the 73 km route takes 2 hours 30 minutes !!!

Arriving in the- admittance- huge  - but very crowded parking lot, that I had marked. Fortunately, just opposite at the bus station and tourist bus parking was space, I risked it and miracle! Nobody bothered me...

49.6171, 6.1237

Here- Luxembourg - there is money! Obvious from the works being done, the luxury cars and the prices in the shop windows!
Not that in France and Belgium is a big deferent...

Saturday morning and the two central parallel pedestrian streets, a bazaar, with shops to expose them outside their door. An incredible globe that ended completely - afterward closing the market...

Here's a beer in one of the oldest old town's pubs

and after sunset ...

late the evening opens no more than 6 ~ 7 bars with youth while cafes and restaurants closed ...

At "top 1" a stroll at the "Chemin de la Corniche" the view from the bastions amazing! Photo of the spectacular defense complex with underground shelters "Bock Casemates"

«Neumunster Abbey»

And in the background the "new" Luxembourg.

A city built on hills with a high altitude difference between its districts.
In the lower town, there is and the "Scott's English Pub", you go down and you mostly go up and with elevator...
The fortress and the Old City have been listed as UNESCO since 1994.

The residence of the Grand Duke, the majestic palace (Flemish Renaissance, 16th century) has one of the most beautiful facades of the city...

«Place de la Constitution»

where also "ORIGINAL PITA GYROS" 5.50 € in a cantina!!!

Overall, I was not impressed...

ITHACA

when you set out on the voyage to Ithaca,
pray that your journey may be long,
full of adventures, full of knowledge.
of the Lastrygones and the cyclopes
and the furious Poseidon, do not be afraid,
for such on your journey you shall never meet
if your thought remain lofty if a select
emotion imbue your spirit and your body.
The Lastrgones and the Cyclopes
and furious Poseidon you will never meet
unless you drag them with you in your soul,
unless your soul raises them up before you.

Pray that your journey may be long.
that many may those summer mornings be
when with what pleasure, what untold delight
you enter harbors you? Love not seen before;
that you stop at Phoenician marketplaces
to procure the goodly merchandise,
mother of pearl and coral, amber, and ebony,
and voluptuous perfumes of every kind,
as lavish an amount of voluptuous perfumes as you can:
that you venture on too many Egyptian cities
to learn and yet again to learn from the sages.

But you must always keep Ithaca on the mind.
The arrival there is your predestination.
Yet do not by any means hasten your voyage.
Let it best endure for many years,
until grown old at length you anchor at your island
rich with all you have acquired along the way.
You never hoped that Ithaca would give you riches.

Ithaca has given you the lovely voyage.
Without her, you not have verdured on the way.
She has nothing more to give you now.

Poor though you may find her, Ithaca has not deceived you.
Now that you have become so wise, so full of experience,
you will have understood the meaning of an Ithaca.
