Road Trip 2011 I Italy, Germany, Sweden

05-05-2011 Part I
Ancona in Sirmione, IT
Arrival at Ancona and Departure at 12:07.using side roads.
All in excellent condition, we arrived in Sirmione at 6:29 after 370 km with an average speed of 58 km according to the GPS. Consumption 32.5 litres with a value of 1.42.29 € per litre.
Parking for the overnight stay just before entering the castle in a common area with buses and cars, 21 € without any facilities - water, electricity - toilet only at working hours with payment and far away.

The village now, a beautiful expected tourist trap. All ground floor places were shops.
for one afternoon it was ok...

Attention at the port of Patras.
They found an illegal immigrant at the safety control under the bicycle cover!!!

06-05-2011 Part II
 Sermione IT σε Innsbruck AUS.
The route from the lakeside road - very slow due to continuous settlements - beautiful!

A stop only to Lazise from where the first photo of the parking lot just opposite the main entrance with "Lazise" sine and the town emblem is offered for an overnight stay.
17 € without any facilities! I did visit it with no rush in 3 hours with a quick coffee...

Continuing I pass through Arco with the castle floating over your head.

Visitable with fantastic views. From there 40 km by SS45 and I was in Trento. From now on due to a GPS programming error in shorter rather than faster route, in Bolzano, I took SS508 to Sarentino instead of SS12 or E45 via Bressanone for Innsbruck.

Watch out now. At 33km climb 1,153 meters! Overheating almost in the red despite the cold weather. at 12 km downhill 1,153 meters !!!
Even though I went downstairs I literally beat the break! The front plates were thrown by the heat! Very hard to stop without any brakes... They returned to a satisfactory situation after about three quarters!

with these and many more I arrived almost at night on Innsbruck.
308 km consumption 34.5 liters x 1.359 € per liter.

07-05-2011
 Innsbruck camping
A wonderful camping with clean spaces, luxurious common areas, electricity, water, and sewerage as well as WiFi internet in every parking area! And all this with 20 € !!!

Equally beautiful and easily accessible - with two buses nearby- (1.80 €) the centre of Innsbruck.

08-05-11 part III
Innsbruck - Berlin

We regretfully left the camping at 9:22 for Nuremberg with a stop for coffee, driving the 296 km at 4:43:42 at an average speed of 63 km / h according to the "GPS"... I was meant to stay at  Knaus Campingpark Nürnberg
N49 25.411 E11 07.292
But the price 24 €, that there was not an informative sign at the reception in any language other than German, that was closed at noon and the entrance and exit were barred! With these and other things - the 2 km bus stop distance -  I was there on Sunday, so I left for Nuremberg center, where I parked comfortably and for free. On the way to the center, I check and the free camper stop for motorhomes, where I eventually returned late in the afternoon for overnight.
Volkspark Dutzendteich
 N 49°25'29 O 11°06'20"
http://www.promobil.de/stellplatz/Volkspark-Dutzendteich-Nuernberg-2727.html
The place - at the edge of the park - after sunset is deserted. However, due to the fact that there were four other motorhome vehicles proved to be quite safe.  before sunset, there was an endless picnic with infinite barbecues - every family or company had one - and a pleasant smell in the air. Note that there were special cement boxes to empty the charcoal in the end!

As about Nuremberg you can walk around - the historic center and the castle, without museums - in about 4 to 5 hours.

09-05-2011
 to Berlin.
We started 07:30, after a very early morning walk with Hara in the park, which was transformed from the otherwise civilized Germans into a dump!
After 410 km at 5:49:08 hours - a stop for coffee and a decision to visit Potsdam - at an average speed of 74 km / h we arrived in Potsdam for a visit to a beautiful park, Sanssouci Park

http://www.aviewoncities.com/berlin/sanssoucipark.htm
Late in the afternoon, we drive the remaining 40 km to Berlin.
Here, in Berlin, we have a great long break till the end of June, because of a visit to my daughter.

27-05-2011
 Bremen
We jumped at the weekend to see my daughter's girlfriends.
The journey to the German motorways is comfortable but also monotonous...
5:33:30 hours with coffee stops for 399 km, with an average speed of 72 km / h and consumption at 10 litres / 100 km.
Bremen definitely deserves a visit if it is close or even better on your way.
The attractions in Bremen are 90% concentrated in the central square of Marktplatz, the town hall (Rathaus-mice-house), the statue of Roland,

The Ratskeller, the cellar of the town hall since it was created in the year 1405 is the oldest-known wine cellar in Germany and today a large part of it is a restaurant. St. Peter's Cathedral and other beautiful buildings in Altstadt

Going down the Bottcherstrasse road (barrels manufacturers) you go out into the river. Against and below the road to the bank of the Weser is the starting point of the small cruise ships. Walking to the left on the bank after the bridge, 200 meters to the left you enter to the oldest part of the town between 15 and 16 century- Schnoor- alleys and houses.
The train station, the stadium, on-site parking becomes a great bazaar on Sunday. Right behind the Barkhof Park for walking in the green with lakes, farms and other goodies. Twice in size than Hyde Park in London.

For overnight now, from the two solutions, campsite but far away or the camper stop with 10 € + 1 € toilet per day + 1 € per shower and regardless of persons.
we chose the camper stop.
Details here

53°01,51N / 08°51,26E
Quite close to the parking lot, you pass the Weser opposite By a small ferry, about a kilometre south of "Schnoor" we used to say. Schedules running from 8 am to 11 pm. Price with a dog and return 3.20 €.

07-06-2011
Berlin- Oslo
So we started the second half of the trip.

With the best impressions from beautiful Berlin and easy to everyday life! that's exactly what we miss back in Athens / Greece, a bit cheaper too...
The original idea was a visit to Hamburg. But due that I have enough time on my way back, Lubeck was decided for a one-day visit with an overnight stay at the edge of the road. It seemed to me and it was quite safe, in the middle, between the central square and the train station. The route was comfortable and indifferent - as always - German motorways...
9:56:43 am with stops - arrival 5:34:19 pm 319km (oil at 1.46€/ liter)
53 5158.37¨N 10 4024.73¨E

A pretty beautiful little town, essentially an island - the historic centre - in the middle of the river.

Changing a bottle of gas - I had a German one to return - 11 Kg cost me 26 €.

8/6/2011
Passage to Denmark
Early the morning the next day - after the regular morning walk with the dog - the departure for Puttgarden - Fehmarn for the ferry boat in Denmark, at Rodby with Scandlines 84 € (up to 6 meters).
after 45 min. a stop at the parking lot between two bridges at Farøbroen
Beautiful, spotlessly with a restaurant / café overlooking the bridge
N54 56.930 E11 59.199

1h and after 60 km from Rodby. the average speed 45 km/h at Copenhagen,

directly at camping Bellahoej
 N55 42.126 E12 30.762

the closest to the centre and the cheapest. 55 € for 3 days with 220v and the internet! Huge space, lawn parking, no trees! Several toilets and only 6 showers !!! Because of the minimum number of campers I have no problem but...
Buses to the centre nearby. Card of 10 routes, 1 hour per route, it favours -40% discount- 140 kron, about 19 €, applies to the state boat. It does not come in the individual channels but that does not say much with good programming - on a map- with the card I doubled - the minimum 220 crowns 30 € for 48 hours, which I would give for hop-hop coaches and boats plus the tickets for the centre... Dogs pay the half ticket- I was not asked to pay - they come in subway, boats and some buses. Always with a gag in addition to the size...

Copenhagen now. Simply Marvelous! Bicycles a lot, everywhere and by everybody!

Cycling routes impeccable! With 20 kr you get from specific places - bases - bike for infinite hours you leave it on whatever basis you want and you get the 20kr back as in the supermarket!!!
The historic centre can be walked pleasantly in two days, I turned all the proposed parts - without museums - and Christiania.

"Cristiania"
An "autonomous" area of Copenhagen. We start wandering. We saw the famous craftsmanship,

but had also a few (I count10) bar-clubs with an entrance that was about 15 euros!!!

Young people go and come to the shops. There were also stalls with earrings and 0ther things like those you see wherever you go, in places where young people are gathering all over Europe. There was also a free second-hand tentative screening tent. There were also some canteens with pizza and kebab. We ate classic, "hot-dog" with beers.

Christiania started out as a fairy tale where some hippies took up an abandoned camp in the 1970s. Today, it has just become a tourist attraction in Copenhagen. Pity!!!
Eventually, as in any city and country, you can live in a  cheap or expensive way,
for everyone, there is someplace...

12-06-2011
Passage to Sweden
From the famous bridge Øresund Bridge (Øresundsbron)
http://goscandinavia.about.com/od/denmar1/qt/oresundbridge.htm

Malmo
Indifferent, with a castle, with a botanical garden next to it.

The Calatrava building is the tallest apartment building in Europe. It turns 90 degrees...
and the classic walk in the historic centre...

13/06.

Gothenburg
The good thing with the van is the easy parking on the roadside, especially of the van... I had two tickets for illegal parking from 400 Swedish kronor each...

It's not only that camping is expensive as that is outside the cities and when it's only for one day until you get back from the centre... You slept and you left..

At the road to Oslo, Norway
rest place

ITHACA

when you set out on the voyage to Ithaca,
pray that your journey may be long,
full of adventures, full of knowledge.
of the Lastrygones and the cyclopes
and the furious Poseidon, do not be afraid,
for such on your journey you shall never meet
if your thought remain lofty if a select
emotion imbue your spirit and your body.
The Lastrgones and the Cyclopes
and furious Poseidon you will never meet
unless you drag them with you in your soul,
unless your soul raises them up before you.

Pray that your journey may be long.
that many may those summer mornings be
when with what pleasure, what untold delight
you enter harbors you? Love not seen before;
that you stop at Phoenician marketplaces
to procure the goodly merchandise,
mother of pearl and coral, amber, and ebony,
and voluptuous perfumes of every kind,
as lavish an amount of voluptuous perfumes as you can:
that you venture on too many Egyptian cities
to learn and yet again to learn from the sages.

But you must always keep Ithaca on the mind.
The arrival there is your predestination.
Yet do not by any means hasten your voyage.
Let it best endure for many years,
until grown old at length you anchor at your island
rich with all you have acquired along the way.
You never hoped that Ithaca would give you riches.

Ithaca has given you the lovely voyage.
Without her, you not have verdured on the way.
She has nothing more to give you now.

Poor though you may find her, Ithaca has not deceived you.
Now that you have become so wise, so full of experience,
you will have understood the meaning of an Ithaca.
